In 1834, our young nation was seeking to elevate our reputation with trading partners across the globe. It was decided that a complete sets of U.S. Proof coins could convey our sophistication and strength to powerful Asian rulers, so President Andrew Jackson authorized a very small minting of U.S. Silver Dollars, a denomination that hadn’t been in circulation since 1804. One of those dollars was the now ultra-rare 1804 Draped Bust coin. The Mint routinely reused existing coin dies, which is how this brand-new dollar ended up with an old date, an error that only contributed to this silver dollar’s notoriety. Today only 15 of these 1804-dated coins are known to exist but you can now own this sterling tribute: The 1804 Draped Bust 1 Oz. Silver Dollar Tribute Coin, available exclusively from The Bradford Exchange Mint.
